A patient-specific approach to the allergen elimination diet requires a clear understanding of diagnostic methods, cross-sensitization and coexisting allergies, growth status, nutritional risks, food labeling laws, tolerance development, and nuances specific to the allergic phenotypes. This session will focus on the foundations of avoidance and also highlight recent advances in food allergy research to offer “food for thought” and practical suggestions for a more patient-specific approach to the elimination diet.
